In June 2019, the SJC4G completed our second Social Impact Project. We travelled back to San Pedro, Guatemala with 23 social justice girls for twelve days. The girls began their immersion with six pre-flight lessons to learn about social justice and cultural differences between girls and women in the U.S. and Guatemala. This helped to inform the social impact project that the girls engaged in while in Guatemala.

Girls resided with a host family, engaged in daily one-on-one Spanish lessons with certified teachers, engaged in community service projects, engaged in a conversation with Concepcìon Ramìrez - the woman printed on the 25-centavios coin, built a Legacy Library and sustainable tree garden at a local school, and worked with youth in the San Pedro Children’s Orphanage. In addition, they completed two critical conversations with students at The San Pedro School of Spanish on topics such as inequality, education, and global relations. This experience not only prepared the girls to become global-minded citizens, but it propelled them to do so while building respectful and mutually responsible relationships, globally.
